What is KOS?
A file-based workspace for keeping useful knowledge and approved context close to your work.
KOS stands for Knowledge Operating System. It gives your notes, projects, instructions and decisions a structure that you and compatible AI tools can read.
The useful part is continuity: you can save what a project needs, review it, and ask a later session to load it. The information lives in files you can inspect and change.
What KOS adds
- A workspace structure for projects and knowledge.
- Instructions that help an agent find the relevant context.
- Project records for durable decisions and the current handoff.
- Installation and validation tools, with capabilities that depend on your edition.
Obsidian is a way to read and connect the Markdown files. Your AI agent is the tool that reasons and acts on the files it can access. KOS provides the structure and rules around that work.
Who it is for
Use KOS when your work spans more than one session: planning a project, turning meeting notes into actions, researching a topic or maintaining procedures. Begin with one active project. A large vault is not a prerequisite.
KOS is less useful if all you need is an isolated question answered without saving or revisiting anything.
What it does not promise
Saving context does not retrain a model. An agent can miss a file, read stale facts or misunderstand an instruction. Saving a draft does not make its contents approved. You remain responsible for reviewing decisions and checking important results.
Your first outcome
The quickstart turns a short meeting note into actions, saves approved facts, and checks whether a fresh session can recover them. That is a better first test than reorganizing your whole vault.
